Final distribution board built by a distribution board manufacturer in Saudi Arabia

What is a distribution board and what does it do?

A distribution board, often called a DB panel, takes one incoming supply and splits it into protected outgoing circuits. Each outgoing way has its own breaker, so a fault on one circuit trips that breaker and leaves the rest of the building supplied. The incomer is usually a switch, MCB or MCCB, with RCD protection where the circuit needs it. Boards at the end of the chain, feeding lights, sockets and small equipment, are final distribution boards. Boards higher up the chain, feeding other boards, are sub-main boards and belong to our LV switchboards and MDB range.

Distribution board manufacturer in Saudi Arabia: what we deliver

Each board is built from your board schedule, load and fault level. The table sets out the scope.

Panel Rating Standard Lead time
Lighting distribution board Single or three-phase, MCB or RCBO outgoings, to project ways IEC 61439-1/-3 1–2 weeks
Power and final distribution board Three-phase TPN or TP+N, MCB and MCCB outgoings, incomer up to 800 A IEC 61439-1/-3 1–2 weeks
Larger or higher-fault boards Boards that exceed 800 A or need a switchboard design verification are moved to the LV range IEC 61439-1/-2 3–5 weeks
Enclosure Surface or flush, wall or floor mounting, sheet steel or Rittal, IP31–IP66 IEC 60529 1–2 weeks
Labelling and schedule Circuit labels on each way, a circuit schedule inside the door IEC 61439-1 Part of build time
Factory acceptance test Routine verification: wiring, insulation, protection and mechanical operation IEC 61439-1/-3 Included in build time

We build with ABB, Schneider Electric and Siemens components, chosen to match the breaker make your project specifies.

Which distribution board type do you need?

Pick the board by the job it does and the people who operate it:

  • Lighting boards feed luminaires and emergency lighting, usually with single-pole MCB or RCBO outgoings and a time-clock or contactor section where required.
  • Small-power boards feed sockets, equipment and HVAC terminal units, often with RCD or RCBO protection per way.
  • Final distribution boards in plants feed workshops, welding sockets and packaged equipment, with MCCBs on the larger outgoings.
  • Essential-supply boards take their incomer from an automatic changeover, which our ATS panels provide.

IEC 61439-3 applies to boards that ordinary people may operate. Boards with restricted access, in a locked plant room, can follow the broader IEC 61439-2 route.

What size distribution board do I need?

Size the board from the total connected load, the diversity you apply and the future spare ways you want. Add the connected loads per phase, apply a diversity factor suited to the type of load, and select an incomer above the result. Spread the load evenly across the three phases so that the neutral stays small. Leave spare ways for future circuits, normally 20 to 25 per cent of the total. The fault level at the board decides the breaking capacity of the breakers, and we check that every breaker, the busbar and the enclosure suit it.

How is a distribution board built, tested and delivered?

  1. Enquiry. You send the board schedule, single-line diagram or contractor drawing.
  2. Site data. We confirm the incoming supply, fault level, location and mounting style.
  3. Design. We issue the general arrangement and circuit schedule for approval.
  4. Build. The board is assembled in the Dammam workshop with labelled circuits.
  5. Factory acceptance test. We carry out the routine verification and record the results. You or your inspector can witness the test.
  6. Delivery. The board is packed and delivered to site, with batch shipments for multi-floor projects.
  7. Documentation. You receive as-built drawings and the test record.
  8. Support. We remain available for spare parts and extension work.

Where we supply distribution boards

Saudi Control Panels Company has worked in Saudi Arabia since 2000 and is approved by Saudi Aramco, SABIC and the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu. We have worked on projects for all three, and we hold ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certification. More than 150 panels leave our Dallah Industrial workshop in Dammam each month.

Boards go to industrial buildings, warehouses, commercial towers, camps, schools and hospitals, and to contractors who need several dozen identical boards on one programme. We deliver to every region of Saudi Arabia, and we respond to site requests in the Eastern Province within one working day. Contractors buying across a whole project can read about our work with EPC contractors, and our MCC panels cover motor loads.

Distribution board questions

Who provides distribution board manufacturing in Saudi Arabia?

Saudi Control Panels Company provides distribution boards from its Dammam workshop, built with ABB, Schneider Electric and Siemens components. We have been active since 2000 and are approved by Saudi Aramco, SABIC and the Royal Commission.

What affects the cost of a distribution board?

The main factors are the incomer rating, the number of ways, the breaker type and make, RCD or RCBO protection, the enclosure and IP rating and the test and documentation level. Send your board schedule and the proposal lists the price impact of each factor.

How long does distribution board delivery take?

The typical lead time for a distribution board up to 800 A is 1–2 weeks. Approval of the schedule and the availability of the breaker make you specify are the factors that move the date.

What is the difference between an MDB, SMDB and DB?

The main distribution board (MDB) takes the incoming supply for the building. Sub-main boards (SMDB) take feeds from the MDB and supply floors or zones. Final distribution boards (DB) take feeds from the sub-main and supply the circuits. Ratings and construction fall as you move down the chain.

Can you supply boards in batches for a large project?

Yes. We build identical boards in batches from one approved design, label them by location and deliver them in the order your site needs. This keeps the contractor's installation programme moving and avoids one-off differences between floors.

What should I send to get a quotation?

Send your board schedule or single-line diagram, with the incomer rating, the number of ways and the breaker make if specified. The proposal then sets out scope, standard, lead time and price.
