What does a package builder need from its panel shop?
A packager sells a complete machine, so the panel has to fit the skid, not just the electrical diagram. How should a skid control panel be laid out?
Arrange it around the skid, not around the drawing office. Mount the panel where the operator can see the equipment and reach the door without climbing over pipework. Take the field cables into one gland plate, sorted by function: power at one side, signals at the other. Size the enclosure for the heat of the drives (see VFD panels), and leave 20 percent spare space for the changes that always arrive during commissioning.
Where a compressor control panel sits near a hot discharge line, move it or add a sun shield and a vent. We review the skid layout before the panel is drawn, and we mark the clearances on the general arrangement drawing so your fabricator can check them.
How do you test a panel that will join a package?
Test the panel hardware on its own, then again with the skid. In our workshop, the factory test covers wiring, insulation, protection and interlocks, with every motor circuit checked against the schedule. Then the panel travels to your yard, where it connects to the skid wiring. Our test record lists each circuit and its result, so your own test bay has a reference.
