What does a water plant need from its panels?
Each panel has to start large pumps without disturbing the supply, keep a standby ready, and stay dry and cool in a pump hall or a chemical-dosing room. Damp air, chlorine vapour and coastal salt attack painted steel, so enclosure choice matters as much as breaker ratings.
A single plant normally needs several panel types:
- a main LV switchboard taking the incoming supply and feeding the plant;
- pump control panels with duty, standby and assist starting for each pump group;
- VFD panels where flow or pressure is controlled by speed;

How do you protect panels in a chemical or coastal water plant?
Choose the enclosure by the room it stands in. In a dosing or chlorination room, stainless steel SS316 with a high IP rating resists corrosion where mild steel would not. In a dry pump hall, a painted Rittal or local enclosure is usually enough. Outdoors, a roof or canopy over the panel and an IP55 to IP66 rating keep out dust and washdown water. Internal parts matter too: sealed gland plates and space heaters that keep condensation off the busbars.
How should a pumping station panel handle standby and start-up?
Start with the number of pumps and the duty pattern, because that fixes the starter type. Three equal pumps with one standby, for example, usually suit a duty-standby-assist arrangement with a soft-starter or VFD panel on each, so that inrush stays within the supply limit. Add an ATS panel if a generator backs the station, and interlock it so the generator and the mains can never feed the board together.
The utility or its consultant normally issues the specification, and it often limits the makes you may use. We review it first and list any clause we cannot meet before the build starts.
How are water plant panels built, tested and delivered?

- Design. General arrangement and wiring drawings are issued for approval.
